An afterthought for Ash Wednesday. While its true that we are dust - TopicsExpress

An afterthought for Ash Wednesday. While its true that we are dust and to dust we shall return, we do exist because of the Divine Breath that enlivens us, every breath we take is the gift given to us from the Author of All Life. Human beings are both coming from dust and being alive because of the Divine Breath (or Spirit) that keeps giving the gift of life to us. (See Gen. 2:7 the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. Another, more inclusive and comprehensive translation of Gen. 2:7 puts it this way: God formed the human from the topsoil of the fertile land and blew life’s breath into his nostrils. The human came to life.) To be human is to be dust and divine breath at the same time, and our destiny ends in dust and in the Source of the Divine Breath, at the same time. In other words, without God we are but dust, and with God we have everything that we need to breathe and be alive - now or ever.
