An anonymous donor pledged $2M for a Sankara Eye Hospital in West Bengal, at our Sangam-2014 concert in Chicago on Sunday, March 9th Sankara Eye Foundation was founded in 1998 to support the work of Sankara Eye Care Institutions (SECI) based out of Coimbatore and thanks to support from all of you, we now run eight Sankara Eye Hospitals in India - Coimbatore, Krishnankoil in Tamil Nadu, Bangalore and Shimoga in Karnataka, Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Anand in Gujarat, Ludhiana in Punjab and Rishikesh in Uttarakand. Our ninth Hospital is coming up in Kanpur and will be inaugurated in June this year. We purchased land in Jodhpur, Rajasthan for our tenth Hospital and we are planning to buy land in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for our 11th and 12th Hospitals. If this anonymous pledge of $2M for West Bengal comes through, we may be able to bring West Bengal forward. At this time it is a pledge and we have work to do to make this a reality. We have so far completed 1.1 million free eye surgeries. With 8 hospitals and 160,000 + free eye surgeries per year, we are now the largest charitable eye care provider in the world and you aint seen nothing yet. We will build an additional 12 hospitals hopefully by the year 2020 and play a significant role in eradicating curable blindness. The credit for this $2M pledge is to the cause, the 1,000+ employees working at our Hospitals for over 30 years now, the 1,000+ volunteers all over the country, the 50,000+ donors who have been supporting us for so many years and this excellent Sangam-2014 concert tour by very high caliber artists including Chitravina Ravikiran, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, Guru Sanchita Bhattacharya and others, which provided a nice platform to this donor to come and pledge his support.
