An anonymous parent writes: Is this an ok place to rant? Im hoping others will at least recognize my frustration. I just had a doctors office (specialist, not pediatrician) call and remind me that I have to keep my son calm. I understand that he got upset last time we were there - because the doctor was talking over him instead of listening, and scolded him when he got upset. I understand it would be best for everyone if my son stayed calm. The thing is, my son is gifted and Aspie, and keeping him calm isnt a simple matter of discipline and respecting his elders. Believe me, my son feels worse than anyone when he melts! And I do my best to keep everything calm so he can stay calm... but if the doctor wont work with me at all and the office staff laugh at me for trying to explain, what can I do? And whats the point of asking me to keep him calm, when they wont even consider small things like lowering the music, or speaking more slowly (my son has an auditory processing disorder)? Ive talked to my son in advance and he and I both hope hell do better next time. I just feel really frustrated! This is a small area and this guy is the only one here in his field, plus everyone knows everyone here, and I have a pretty good idea what they are saying about my son and me. :-(
