An appeal to all on World Environment Day, 2013 So far, we failed - TopicsExpress

An appeal to all on World Environment Day, 2013 So far, we failed to protest effectively against the inaction and/or grossly inadequate action of West Bengal Forest Department and Indian Railways to curb elephant death incidents due to collision with train in North Bengal Duars region. We have lost 44 elephants so far within 9 years after conversion of Siliguri-New Mal-Alipurduar Junction section from metre gauge to broad gauge. It is about 5 times the casualty figure recorded from accidents that took place along the metre gauge line during the period 1974 to 2002. In 2013 only we have lost 10 elephants on the North Bengal rail track. If you feel you do not like to see elephants dying helplessly on Duars railway track, kindly send a personal e-mail to the Chief Wildlife Warden of West Bengal who is authoritatively responsible for the well being of all wild animals of West Bengal. Please write to him (you may cut and paste if you want to) ‘TO THE CHIEF WILDLIFE WARDEN FOREST DEPARTMENT, GOVT. OF WEST BENGAL WE ARE SAD TO SEE MANY ELEPHANTS DYING PAINFUL, UNNATURAL DEATH ON THE DUARS RAIL TRACK DUE TO COLLISION WITH RUNNING TRAINS. KINDLY TAKE IMMEDIATE POSITIVE ACTION TO STOP THIS. REGARDS…’ You may add anything else you wish to or feel worth adding. But please send the mail to the Chief Wildlife Warden with copy to (cc to) Minister of State, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India and request all your friends and acquaintances to do so. Let your voice be heard along with many others. As found from the websites, the email id-s of the Chief Wildlife Warden of West Bengal are [email protected], bengaltiger@vsnl and the email id of Minister of State, Ministry of Environment & Forests is: [email protected]
