An email sent by our Dean of Students in reference to Mayas - TopicsExpress

An email sent by our Dean of Students in reference to Mayas posting and other issues on campus. Dear Students, Many of you may have read an online posting by a Mount Holyoke student which raised concern about whether some students are treated differently than others based on their race and gender. While I cannot comment on the specifics of the incident from this weekend, this is a matter that the College will review immediately, responsibly, and respectfully. The issues raised in the posting connect to our ongoing conversations regarding diversity, community, civility and respect. At Mount Holyoke, it is our collective responsibility to create a climate of care when working with and supporting each other. Shortly you will receive an invitation to several forums where you can speak freely about your individual experiences with difference. It is our plan to hold these small group conversations in the residence halls. While we cannot undo the pain the incident from this weekend has caused to all of the parties involved, we can come together to discuss how we engage around difference and action steps we can take to address any needs. I look forward to seeing you soon. Sincerely, Rene Davis Rene Davis Mount Holyoke College Dean of Students Section 504 Coordinator and Title IX Officer [email protected] https://mtholyoke.edu/deanofstudents 413.538.2550 (phone) 413.538.2584 (fax)
