An evening stroll through Hamilton last night led us past the Freemasons Hall. It is on the north side of Reid Street and is a handsome example of Classical Revival archtiecture of the early 20th century. The hall dates back to 1847 when the cornerstone of the Atlantic Phoenix Lodge No. 224 was laid here. The freemasons became established in Bermuda largely because of the initiative of officers in the various army regiments garrisoning the islands and in the naval and civilian department of the Royal Naval Dockyard. It is definitely one of Hamiltons most dignified buildings !
