An explanation of the scaffolding blocking passage on Lignou Street, from the Voice of Hydra, June 19, 2013: A dangerous building, ready to collapse, in the main street of Hydra has cut the island in two. [The house, which for some time has had scaffolding around it, has been given a special protective covering. There is a small path for pedestrians.] This central road is virtually impenetrable and utterly dangerous for residents and tourists. But what if our citizens are carrying things and suitcases; what if a pack animal needs to pass? Then the passage is totally prohibitive, and they must use adjacent small streets. [This] makes life difficult for the residents and especially can cause accidents. [There was a] recent incident where a loaded mule overturned in an adjacent steep, narrow road. ... The issue was discussed at the last city council based on a letter with 113 signatures from fellow citizens. ... The decision was to be immediately transmitted by the Municipality of Hydra to Archaeology with accompanying signatures and the letter. ... Because the building has essentially split the island in two, and also because there are other similar dilapidated and very dangerous houses on Hydra, a solution must be found immediately! Although under the control of Archaeology, our island should definitely be "running" issues and not stagnate. [Although nobody will visit an urbanized island], we should in no way be "prisoners" of our own radiance. fonitisydras/index.php/themata/articles-reportaz/item/519-epikindyno_oikima_xorizei_to_nisi_sta_dyo
