An independent opinion and review of the FOX-10 production for the debate. This is what you get when you don’t use the right people/gear to put your broadcast on the air…. DuVal’s camera is running thru a frame sync and the video is behind the audio - unacceptable. Color balance between the three cameras is fair but still unmatched. Ducy’s camera is too hot compared to the wide shot. Close ups aren’t giving the DuVal any lead room when he looks to the audience. Needed a fourth camera for Hook’s closeup. The over the shoulder camera bobble at 6:25 is just dumb. The upcut to a moving left 2 shot at 6:37 which then jerks right is amateur. Headroom between the close-ups is all over the place… Ducy’s is usually very high and DuVal’s is usually close – shots should match and they don’t. Showing the crap on the table (6:39) in front of them doesn’t do any good at telling the story. Both Duval & Ducy’s mics are on their upstage lapels so when they look out at the audience they are off axis. The audio hiss when the comp/limiters pull up the levels sounds like a rainstorm…. You could barely hear Hook for his closing comment over the ambient sound from the audience and they cut him off to go to the RoomStore spot - nice out.... The audience “interaction” at 6:30 was just stupid and it was amazing (bad) that you could hear the audience “questions” as Hook kept trying to regain control. (no security?!?) They couldn’t get a 16:9 graphic that was TV safe @ 6:47? On a positive note, the lighting was pretty good for a stage. Otherwise not a bad job for live TV…
