An issue that is constantly cropping up on doorsteps and also while generally out and about talking to people, is prepayment key and card meters for gas and electricity. This method charges at a higher rate, runs out forcing people to use the emergency supply (which is expensive), and (apart from British Gas which can be topped up online) means that the key or card has to be topped up by visiting a shop. This resonates strongly with me on a personal level. I have experienced the embarrassment of having to count out change at the end of the month to put £5 on the key. Its humiliating and uneccesary. Labour Government will freeze energy prices until 2017, reform the energy market and create a tough new regulator with the power to strip energy companies of their licences if they repeatedly mistreat customers. We will also sort out the whole issue of prepayment meters and tariffs.
