An open letter to the driver and passenger of a Mercedes which - TopicsExpress

An open letter to the driver and passenger of a Mercedes which overtook me this afternoon as I cycled home. I gather from your furious gestures and loud tootings of horn that you were in some way dissatisfied with my positioning on the road. Im terribly sorry - but I must also point out that the strip of tarmac to my immediate left, segregated from the road by a high kerb is not in fact a cycle path, It is, in popular terms, a *pavement*. I am not permitted to legally cycle on foot paths, so the only place available to me, was where you found me - on the road, tucked as close to the pavement as I could be to permit other road users to overtake me safely. For your future reference, cycle paths can be identified by a number of subtle hints, including the presence of white painted outlines representing the form of a bicycle. These are not to be confused with *actual* painted bicycles which are left in London to commemorate the death of a cyclist - some of whom will likely have been killed by similarly selfish and thoughtless road users such as yourself. In short sir, you are both mistaken and a mistake. Mistaken in your belief that I could legally cycle on the pavement, and a mistake in the sense that the doctor who circumcised you seems to have thrown away the wrong part.
