An update on Josh Gracin. He is currently being held on a 5150 psychiatric hold at a nearby Nashville hospital. Apparently Josh drove himself to the hospital with a police escort after they located him. He is cooperating with police and has spoken with his family. May he get the help he needs and the tools necessary to work through this difficult time. I can say hes got loads of support and I feel strongly that many of us understand what depression and anxiety can do to your mind and spirit. I was going to go into this long and deeply personal post about my own life-long struggles with chronic anxiety and the toll it has taken on me. I wrote the whole thing out, including some painful and embarrassing details. Trust me-not pretty. Then I just deleted it. Instead Id just like to say-dont judge this guy. Understand that Anxiety and Depression are insidious illnesses that literally take over your mind and body. Encourage your loved ones, YOUR CHILDREN, to talk about what makes them worry or what makes them sad. Insist that your family doctor pay more attention to your mental health because, if left uncheck, your anxiety and depression will most definitely affect your physical health. INSIST that your childs pediatrician start inquiring about his/her mental health!!! Lets stop treating it like its something dirty or a sign of weakness. Talking about it is by far the BEST start you can make on your road to happiness. Give your loved ones a chance to communicate without fear of judgement. Best to you and your family, tonight. And understand when I say things like find your way to Happy I TOTALLY MEAN THAT. Its not just some stupid thing I like to throw in there to be glib.
