Analysis # 1 – Our Defense With Victor Valdes and Carles Puyol departing, there was a real focus on addressing the gaps in our defense. So we started to recover with our first signing Ter Stegan to fill up the lights of victor valdes, This German is expected to become the established No.1 for our team and on the other side Claudio Bravo one experienced keeper that was needed & he will likely provide stiff competition, and it is refreshing for both the coaching staff and supporters that they have two quality goalkeepers at their disposal. Meanwhile, both Thomas Vermaelen and Jeremy Mathieu were signed to add depth to central defense, although it is arguably youngster Marc Bartra who will be the most intriguing option. After a relatively impressive year last season, Bartra will be desperate to establish himself at the heart of the defense on a regular basis this campaign, and he has the talent to do so. And with the enough playing time he can fill up the spot very well for our future. Perhaps the biggest criticism on an individual level is on pique falling below his usual high standards. But he has a potential to come back strongly. Enrique has already hinted at his preference of playing Javier Mascherano in his more natural defensive midfield role. We saw him playing in the defense in the last friendly, hopefully he will start Mascherano on his original playing position as CDM. On the other hand side our two usual LB & RB Jordi Alba and Dani Alves. But the question lies on Alves. His habit of going forward and leaving the defense wide open. After all the criticism he is also looking to prove his worth under the new manager. So all in all our defense is a bit Dodgy but a very good one too with the blend of youngsters and experienced campaigners. I will go with 3 stars out of 5 - ZR
