Ancient Ecuador Man-Made Yeast Report Between 200-800 CE, two - TopicsExpress

Ancient Ecuador Man-Made Yeast Report Between 200-800 CE, two Pre-Inca cultures lived around a marshy lake near Quito. They made a fermented drink, chicha, from corn broth. In 1980, 9 tombs were found there, with 20 bodies. Fine textiles, gold and pottery that had contained food and chicha were the grave offerings. Yeast remains from 680 BCE were brought back to life, and the ancient yeast turned out to be a new species. The yeast was prepared using animal bones, human saliva and feces. The researcher who revived the yeast, made chicha from the yeast, and it tasted good but gave him horrible headaches. He found that they had added flowers to the brew for flavor, and perhaps psychotropic plants as well. But the research uncovered more dramatic news. A bottled tea in Taiwan was found in 2010 with contamination. The contaniments were studied and found to be the same yeast variety that was found in Peru. This is the 2nd time identical human made yeast was found in the Pacific and the New World. The earlier discovery found a yeast that was identical in Australia, Costa Rica and Ecuador. They are exactly identical and related to sweet potatoes. The chicha related yeast is in the same category, exactly identical. And since the yeast is man made, it is not likely that these yeasts were produced independently. And the sweet potato related yeast could only have come from the New World.
