“And he said: I tell you the truth, unless you change and become - TopicsExpress

“And he said: I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18: An amazing quality of a child is trust in their parents, this is one of the attributes that our Lord is telling us we need in order to inherit the Kingdom of heaven. Something else came to my mind as I considered this verse of scripture; a child is not bogged down with religious doctrine that prevents them from hearing the pure truth of the Gospel. Once while I was teaching Sunday school a rabbit trail discussion broke out over who we are supposed to pray to. A woman who came to our Sunday school class was a former catholic and had always been told to pray to the Virgin Mary. I explained that Jesus Christ is the only mediator between men and God and even lead her to the verse that supports what I was saying (1 Timothy 2:5). The woman became argumentative and insisted that she had prayed to Mary before with great success and did not understand why she now had to pray to Jesus. I showed her a few more verses such as John 14:6 “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I even told her that prayer to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ was also good and effectual because the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all ONE. But her years of catechism doctrine prevented her from hearing the truth. “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
