And health officials warn that we’re in the midst of a new heroin epidemic that will only get worse before it gets better. Did I not say this at one of the first Heroin Task Force meetings ??? Yes I did. I believe that our law enforcement agencies across the country are stepping up to really dig in to take care of the big players that sell heroin. I believe our DEA is beginning to step up and clean house with the over prescribing MDs. I really hope that the Medical Boards across the country are looking hard at doctors that prescribe freely and educate them. I believe the families caught in the throws of this addiction are stepping up to try to help and save not only themselves but their loved ones. I believe we must NARCAN UP and teach harm reduction and I believe the government should pay for it. I believe groups are stepping up to educated the public that this monster does lurk everywhere. I believe the school districts are beginning to think about the education of their students. I believe that peers that have friends that are using or experimenting are gaining power to put pressure on their friends that its not cool to use. I believe AA, NA need to move past their veil of anonymity to help bring the knowledge that addiction is a disease and we need to start raising the funds to treat it. I believe they need to march in the streets and scream it at the top of their lungs I name is Jo Blow, I am an addict, and I have a disease ! I believe money needs to be diverted from the incarceration business and used for mandatory drug rehab. I believe the Pharmas need to help assist financially in the building of long term detox and rehabs. I believe the FDA needs to get back to their job of protecting the public rather than lining their pockets with lobbyist money. I believe it is going to take a village. Hell, I believe it is going to take a whole damn nation. BUT I DO BELIEVE THIS IS DOABLE. DO YOU ???
