And so our wonderful country changes forever . . . This - TopicsExpress

And so our wonderful country changes forever . . . This morning, I, like every single one of my fellow Aussies, shed a tear in sorrow for the terrifying events that unfolded in Sydney just a few hours ago . . . firstly, my deepest, heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families & friends of the two hostages who lost their lives & my loving thoughts & prayers are with those who survived this horrific, gut wrenching ordeal . . . They will forever be scarred by what they experienced in the last 24 hours . . . This siege puts me in mind of what happened immediately after 9/11. The day the towers fell in New York was the day the entire world changed forever. The world lost its innocence that day & today, a similar ripple of change will pervade our own Aussie society . . . Its SO easy to buy into the fear that these horrific events create. Its so easy to become emotionally charged & wanting to vent our frustration & anger towards whoever we feel will listen to us. We all have our own ways of coping with tragedies like this & in fairness to EVERYONE, I dont think any of us should be critical of how another reacts or by what their point of view is . . . after all, were only human . . . You see, I believe theres a MUCH great danger lurking beneath ALL these events. This is NOT a time to start pulling everyone apart, looking for someone to blame for this unimaginable tragedy, all those details will, in due course, be unravelled. The GREATEST danger I believe that we now face in our society is the danger of allowing ourselves to be torn apart by an event that was spearheaded by a lone deranged assailant & allowing that fear to rip us apart & segregate us. What is they say? United we stand, divided we fall. We MUST unite as a WHOLE society & not allow these horrific events to divide us through anger, resentment, bitterness & fear. THIS is how the darker forces win control over us . . . through fear . . . There is no power in the entire Universe like the power of love & this morning, as we rise out of bed & face the grim headlines blasting out on the telly, we have a choice to make. We can allow this event to shackle our thoughts & emotions, thereby issuing the darker forces with the licence to further tighten its grip of fear & control of our lives, or we can shun that fear & unite as ONE through the power of love & NOT allow ourselves to succumb to terror . . . Yes, I believe our country will undoubtedly change because of the event in Martin Place, but we can demonstrate to the world that will we will NOT allow ourselves to be controlled by the darker forces who relish the idealism of total control . . . its our choice & to be honest, I truly believe that those who tragically lost their lives would concur with my thoughts here . . . unity through love is the ONLY way we can survive a crisis like this . . . I saw a posting here on FB yesterday that showed a picture of hundreds of people crowded at a barricade in the city & in that post, someone had mentioned (quite brilliantly I thought) that someone in the crowd should have started singing at the top of their voices, I am, You Are, We Are Australian . . . could you imagine the wave of Aussie pride & unity that would have swept through the streets of Sydney if hundreds of people joined in & sang in chorus?? . . . Now THATS something that would have made world headlines . . . United we stand . . . divided we fall . . . My deepest & most heartfelt sympathies to all who lost their lives & prayers for the speediest recovery possible for those who survived . . . xxx
