And some wonder why we need a law change to allow for #AssistedDying? Did you know? Elderly suicide rates are three times higher than for a younger person under 65. Herewith some comments on our Petition: Werner, Pretoria: "My dad committed suicide by not taking his prescribed medication and by refusing any solid food. He realised his dementia was far developed. It was a sad six weeks for us kids. I also saw my mom die of pancreatic cancer - a terrible way to die." Carolien, Johannesburg: "My mother shot herself in desperation after a long sickbed. She should have had other options." Moira, Hilton: My father committed suicide by jumping off a building as there was no other way he could die with assistance from the medical profession - an absolute disgrace. Marie, Pretoria: A person dear to our family committed suicide because he was terminally ill with bladder and prostrate cancer and did not want suffer the pain and indignity of a prolonged death.
