And the drama continues to unfold... Today a few more members of the misbegotten government in Canberra called it quits. Among them, my local MP Stephen Smith, aka Smiffy after the clueless lad in the old Bash Street Kids comic strip. Smiffy, officially Minister for Defence but also Minister for Immaculate Hair, was as popular with our people in uniform as a bucketload of guts on a wedding cake. The recent state election saw convincing losses for the ALP in this area. The member for the state seat of Perth was pure modern Labor - pro gay, pro arts, pro heritage. And his inner city constituents turfed him. You know the axis has shifted when something like that happens.
