And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. (Act 2:42-47 NKJ) We can pray globally; we can and should pray for our nation, praying communally for our towns and cities is vital, and not just within denominations but crossing denominational, racial and economic barriers. But all this is dependent on what’s in the house, the ‘oikos’ of God. At church recently we brought four people into membership. Can I confess, I’m not a big fan of the concept of membership. Membership is something I can take or leave, fully participate in or stand back, like or dislike. The house of God, however, is more than just membership, it’s about family. No family is perfect, but family has a commitment and that was evident in the early church. A commitment to the Word, to fellowship, caring and sharing and to prayer. Prayer keeps the house of God healthy, invites God into the problems and makes the house attractive to those on the outside. On a different note- 3 `Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. (Jer 33:3 NKJ) Let me ask you this question. If God had an email account or was on Twitter--#God, or had a cell phone so you could text him, and that these means of communication were viable methods of prayer, would you pray more? Send me a reply with just a yes or no. Dr. Terrence Ann Threadwell
