And yet another.........From Johnstown Tribune 2 May 1899. FIFTEEN YEAR OLD BOY SUICIDES Son of Sipesville Merchant Put a Bullett in His Head Yesterday Homer Sipe, Son of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Sipe, of Sipesville, Somerset County, about five miles south of Jenners, committed suicide at 3:30 oclock yesterday afternoon by shooting himself in the head with a small revolver about fifty yards away from his home. The boy, about fifteen years of age, and was employed as a clerk in his fathers general store, in which the post office is located , Mr. Sipe being the postmaster. It is said that Sipesville men had been furnishing the boy with liquor for some time past, and he was under its influence yesterday when he took his life. He had been making himself troublesome about the store yesterday afternoon, when his father told him to go into the house, which adjourns the store. Instead of doing so, he went around the house and started out the road that leads to Stoyestown, his father following a short distance behind. When the lad had gotten about fifty yards from the store, Mr. Sipe heard the report of a revolver and hurredly ran forward. He found Homer lying on the ground with the weapon clasped in his right hand and a bullet hole in his head just above the ear. The boy was dead when his father reached his side. Dr. William Bell, Irvin Miller, Harry Airsman, and two men named Swank were at the store when the shooting occurred and were called to carry the remains of the dead boy to his home. An inquest was to be held in Sipesville last evening, but the verdict rendered was not yet ascertained. It is not known who furnished the boy with the revolver with which he took his life. The funeral will take place at 10 oclock to-morrow morning. Rev. S. C. Long of the Reformed Church will conduct the obsequies and interment will be made in the Casebeer Cemetery in Lincoln Township. Homer Sipe is survived by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. He was the eldest of the family. His mothers maiden name was Lillie Shaver, and she is the daughter of Herman Shaver, of Friedens, and the sister of J. J. Shaver of this place. The dead boy was a relative of Mrs. John E. Gasteiger, who with her hisband started for Sipesville on the 8:30 train over the Somerset & Cambria Branch this forenoon.
