Andrea: Just got back from a news conference at the EOC! At this time, approximately 15 homes and/or businesses have been affected by sewer back up, up from 7 earlier today. The YELLOW and RED zones have been EXTENDED... Please note that City personnel are going door to door as we speak, advising Hatters to close isolation valves and monitor sewage backup. Here is the actual release from the City of Medicine Hat: Yellow and Red Zone Boundaries Extended Posted Date: 6/22/2014 4:15 PM The Emergency Operation Centre has revised the boundaries of the Red and Yellow Zones to ensure all possible problem areas are covered and residents and business owners in these locations are notified. The zones include properties serviced by the City’s IXL lift station, which may experience sewage backup due to mechanical problems. The expanded areas include: - The block between Kingsway Avenue and 8th Avenue - A expanded area around Spencer Street and Marshall Avenue - Additional properties north of Industrial Avenue Teams of City personnel are going door to door in these areas advising residents and business owners to close isolation valves and monitor for sewage backup. Individuals in these areas are also being reminded to use water sparingly to reduce the load on the sewer system. Individuals experiencing sewage backup or who have closed their sewer isolation valve are asked to call the Flood Information Line (403-525-8600) and have any questions answered. They may also register at the reception centre at Strathcona Centre for assistance. Temporary accommodations may be made available for those who qualify. SIDE NOTE: No more news conferences expected tonight.
