Andy Murray came through another test at the US Open, battling past Andrey Kuznetsov 6-1, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 on Saturday to reach the fourth round at Flushing Meadows. The Scot had also been extended to four sets in his first-round contest against Robin Haase. Top American John Isner faced a familiar face at the US Open on Saturday evening, and suffered a similar fate: the 13th seed was upset for the third year in a row in the third round by Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4). Kohlschreiber, the 22nd seed, withstood 42 aces struck by his opponent seeded 13th, and conceded the only break of the match in the second set. The Germans victory marked the first time the 610 Isner had lost three tie-breaks in one match. It will be a battle between the ATP World Tour’s young guns in the US Open fourth round as Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori are set to face off on Monday at Flushing Meadows. Nishikori and Raonic also met in the fourth round at Wimbledon, with Raonic prevailing in four sets. It was his first win in three meetings with Nishikori. Nishikori advanced to the US Open round of 16 for the first time since 2008 on Saturday in New York as he dismissed Leonardo Mayer 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. The 10th-seeded Japanese player hit 25 winners to 19 unforced errors and saved nine of the 10 break points he faced for victory in one hour and 52 minutes. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is through to the fourth round at the US Open for the eighth year in a row after dismissing Sam Querrey 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 on Saturday in New York. Djokovic recorded his eighth win in nine meetings with Querrey as he won 66 per cent of his service points and converted seven of his 12 break points, prevailing in 85 minutes. The Serb has a 48-8 record at Flushing Meadows, lifting the trophy in 2011 (d. Nadal). He also finished runner-up in 2007 (l. to Federer), 2010 (l. to Nadal), 2012 (l. to Murray) and last year (l. to Nadal).
