Angela posted » Failed Back Surgery Support Group On Feb. 18, 2003, after refusing ANY SURGERY attempts for over 20 yrs., I gave into postier laminectomy, L/4 L/5 fusion w/ 4 pedicle screws. My cracked vertebra turned into a BROKEN vertebra w/ the L/4 hanging 30-40% over & on the L/5. I had ALWAYS been active @ home, in the community, also held a few offices @ some local organizations, VFW, Eagles, American Legion. Also had a phsyicially demanding job, Industrial union painter, requiring lots,& lots of heavey lifting, climbing, crawling, I did everything from sandblasting @ 500 psi to painting a valvue not much bigger than a 1/2 dollar. Starting w/ low back pain @ age 26 & now Im 52 Ive been dealing w/ back pain for 1/2 my life. BUT NOTHING EVER PREPARED ME FOR THE PAIN FROM & AFTER THE SURGERY !!! & I know PAIN, refused any prescription pain meds UNTIL AFTER SURGERY!! After CONSTANT complaining about being able to FEEL the screws, tenderness, & the PAIN they told me that would go away, less than a yr later I was told the screws were to BIG for my BONES, 1 was placed INCORRECTLY, & another was coming loose !?!? Was also told they needed to be taken out, NO WAY WAS I GONNA RELIVE THAT NIGHTMARE AGAIN !!!! Read more...
