Animal Welfare! As many of you have noticed the University has been publicly outed for its testing on 1,000s of animals. The committee members have been speaking to Exepose about the article and have written our own response. We apologize for not discussing any of this with the group beforehand, but unfortunately we were sworn to secrecy by the paper. We are very concerned about the welfare of these animals, that include 100s of birds and 33 basking sharks. How are they being allowed to exhibit natural behaviours? What exact welfare standards is the university meeting? The university has refused to tell anyone what the animals are being kept for or what alternatives they have actually sought out. Animal testing has been proven to be costly and ineffective, in addition to simply inhumane. It is a practice that legally allows for the prolonged suffering, torture, and imprisonment of animals and one that we as tuition payers are sponsoring without our knowledge or consent! The committee has arranged for us to be in the forum Tuesday - Thursday to have people complete our on-line petition requesting an annual report from the school detailing what animals are being kept and how they are being treated, as well as aims to reduce the numbers. If you can help us out (Rigby will be there lots!) please sign up here: https://doodle/ftuuie92az9qhim7 Also, PLEASE complete and share widely the poll: exeterguild.org/change/ideas/idea81-animaltesting/
