Ankita Raina loses final, so does Jeevan NEW DELHI, JUNE 1: Ankita Raina was unable to assert her status as the No.1 seed and was beaten 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 by the seventh-seeded Lin Zhu of China in the final of the $25,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Balikpapan, Indonesia, on Sunday. Al though it was a good chance missed to capture a title at this level for the 21-year-old Ankita who trains with coach Hemant Bendrey in Pune, it had to be conceded that she lost to a good player who had been marching towards her own maiden title at this level. Lin Zhu had reached the final of a similar tournament in China last week, when Ankita had herself made the quarterfinals. The title was worth 50 WTA points and $3919, while Ankita pocketed 30 WTA points and $2091. The 290th ranked Ankita had made the final of a $25,000 event last year around the same time in Karshi, Uzbekistan. She has been performing well recently and had made the semifinals of a $25,000 tournament in Karshi. Meanwhile, in the final of the $10,000 ITF men’s tournament in Tucmon, Guam, the top-seeded Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan was beaten 6-7(6), 6-2, 7-5 by the second-seeded Takuto Niki of Japan. The champion collected 18 ATP points and $1440 while Jeevan, who had made the semifinals of a $25,000 event last week in Uzbekistan, had to be content with 10 ATP points and $848.
