Announcement: Live Music / Late Night Opening / DJs We have noticed an increase in noise complaints from our neighbours in recent weeks and as a result have carried out a full review of our licensed activity - particularly live music, DJ performances and late night opening. Following the review we have taken the following decisions to minimise the impact of noise from Matthews Yard on residents of Bridge House and Exchange Square: With immediate effect: 1. No DRINKS outside after 10pm (this was previously no glasses) when there is an event. 2. No more DJs in the cafe playing anything other than background music. 3. No more bookings for events to be taken in the cafe 4. No more late licensed events, except in special circumstances (ie NYE). 5. More focus on attracting a sophisticated audience, more lounge music, piano, jazz, classical. 6. No more bands with drums or loud instruments to perform in the cafe, - all these performances have now been moved to the studio, which is below ground - beneath Surrey street and provides excellent natural soundproofing properties. Longer term (as funds become available) 1) Build out the front of MY to remove the semi-covered area where customers smoke. This is adds to the echo, amplifying voices through the square. In doing so there will be two sets of doors, so one set should close, before the second set opens - ensuring internal sounds does not leak out as much on entry/exit. 2) Double Glaze the windows at the front and rear of the premises 3) Improve lighting and CCTV coverage outside including coverage of parts of exchange square. 4) Improve soundproofing internally. We look forward to implementing these changes in the weeks ahead.
