Annual Fire Hydrant Flushing: Fire hydrant flushing will commence on 17-18 May 2014 from 0600 to 1700. Fire hydrant flushing will include all fire hydrants base-wide; plus all Great Lakes military housing areas, Recruit Training Command (RTC), Camp John Paul Jones, and the Federal Health Care Center (FHCC). Each hydrant will be flushed for approximately five minutes. Flushing is necessary to ensure clean, safe, potable water out of the water distribution system. Should you experience discolored tap water on these days it is normal. Please let your water run for up to 15 minutes until it turns clear. EXERCISE CAUTION when LAUNDERING WHITE CLOTHING during these times to prevent discoloring of laundry items! For your safety, if you are traveling by vehicle or on foot, do NOT attempt to cross the path of any hydrant water flow. It may appear harmless, however injuries or property damage could result.
