Another Critique the Ink for InkMaster Rivals. This week for the Elimination Challenge they had to show composition. Composition is how you design a tattoo to show flow and balance; not only in the design but how it fits the body. For the Elimination Challenge there were only 4 Human Canvases to tattoo. The artists had to show salesmanship and relate the the human canvas so they would get chosen. Emily, Josh, Erik and Cleen were all chosen to do tree tattoos. Emily had to design a tree with different hybrids of trees morphed in. She tattooed a tree with and octopus bottom. It just looked a an octopus with the top of a tree sticking out. totally stupid looking. Josh had to tattoo a cherry blossom tree. Tattoo was technically done well but designed with no flow. pretty boring. Erik had to tattoo an oak/olive tree on the ribs. Pretty cool tattoo with softly shaded leaves in the background. The trunk of the tree couldve had more bends and twists to give it more flow but done nicely. Cleen had to tattoo and oak tree on the upper back. Done super solid with good techniques. solid line and solid and smooth shading. The roots of the tree were the same size and dimension of the upper part. I would have like to see a variance in size because from 3 ft. away it looks like a reflection of the upper part of the tree; not roots. Erik wins the Flash Challenge because in the end he had the best composition. The Elimination Challenge they had to tattoo Geishas. Angels geisha was a pretty good design. Shading pretty smooth. Lines pretty consistent. Needed to pay more attention to detail on the designs of the kimono. Some were very inconsistent . Julias geisha was done ok. Weak, inconsistent lines throughout; especially in the umbrella and robe. Black not solid in hair. Jason Clays geisha was done really well. Great traditional japanese design. Solid , consistent lines and smooth , solid color and shading. Great detail in the patterns of the kimono . Emilys geisha was designed well. Pretty good line work except on the face. The place where you need it the most. Spotty color on leaves and all black areas. Bad lines in the wood of the fan. Chris Elements geisha was a mess. He said he gave up on this tattoo before he started and it showed! Messy, scratchy black and grey shading that looked all the same tone throughout. From 3 ft away this looks like a big grey block. Weak, scratchy line work. The koi fish looked like they had wings instead of fins. Bad design right from the start. Ryans geisha had no flow. Designed poorly with a weird smokey frame around it . Shaky lines in the umbrella and in the pattern of the kimono . Black not solid in the hair. Joshs geisha was done in a portrait style. Tattoo done well. Black a little scratchy under the chin. Great attention to detail in the patterns in the kimono. Tim Leess geisha was terrible. Horrible composition right from the beginning. Weak outlines everywhere. Patchy black shading. Lines dont touch on the peacock feather pattern on the kimono. The hand is too small. Back round has a weird shape. Aarons geisha was also a mess! Messy, scratchy back round. Scratchy color. Nothing is done technically well in this tattoo. The composition was terrible. Face designed bad! Cleens geisha was done great. Solid line work, solid color and smooth shading. Dons geisha was shaded a little to dark. Not smooth black and grey. Bad line work through out; especially on the jewelry hanging on the side of her face. Circles were not circular or consistent . Robbies geisha was done ok. Black in all areas was scratchy; especially in the hair. Patchy color in sections. Eriks geisha was a decapitated head. Hair lines on forehead were not consistent. Lots of weak, inconsistent line work and patchy black and color areas. Ty Eshas geisha was ok. A really big tattoo. She chose size over a solid, well done tattoo. Line work bad in areas such as the spines in the umbrella . Black not solid in hair. Nose on face was weak. Color patchy in areas. Marks geisha was on the ribs and done too dark. Line work was really inconsistent . Face was composed poorly. Jason Clay Dunn wins the Elimination Tattoo Challenge with a super solid, well designed tattoo. Tim Lees is sent home because he has proven over and over to not have the skills to be an INKMASTER. His fundamentals such as outlining and solid color and shading are poor. Not to mention is design skills. You probably noticed in this critique I used the terms poor line work and patchy shading and NOT SOLID BLACK!! EVERY TATTOO DONE ANYWHERE SHOULD HAVE ALL 3 OF THESE ELEMENTS DONE GREATt!!! These people are embarking themselves on national T.V doing poor technically done tattoos over and over!!! I consistently see inconsistent tattoos every week!!! Stop arguing with your rivals about how they are bad. I solve it for you… YOU BOTH ARE BAD!!! Get it together and put out some bad ass tattoos!!!!!!
