Another Riyadh experience...Today I ventured out for lunch with a friend...Riyadhs version of Chipotle. We walk in, a worker meets us half way and says he will take our order...ok so we sit down...he then shakes his head and walks us to a table by the door and explains that women are not allowed at that particular location, but he can take our order for take out. OK...our driver had left and we really wanted Mexican, so we place our order, pay the guy because we were not allowed to go to a register...while we waited a man came over to us, we assumed he was manager and explained that there were other locations that we could dine in and if it was up to him we could have sat down, but if the religious police would see us there we would get into trouble...NO WORRIES...we got our food and left. We walked to a nearby McDonalds, entered through the family entrance and explained our situation...they were very kind to let us dine there with food from another eatery. We went to booth closed the curtains and were able to take off our abayas and eat...I of course had to buy a small order of fries because I felt bad and I wanted to taste them...they were pretty good.
