Another busy week for the Sea Vixen Team of Engineers. Progress - TopicsExpress

Another busy week for the Sea Vixen Team of Engineers. Progress has been made on locating and procuring essential Ground Equipment at RNAS Yeovilton. This will enable the team to proceed more effectively with the maintenance programme. These items include an hydraulic rig, elevated work platforms etc. A major step forward occurred prior to the Christmas break, when the team were able to locate an example of the modification to the fuel bay doors. This modification was incorporated on the later versions of the FAW 2 and was designed to prevent the fuel bay doors detaching in flight, after a failure of the door support lugs. This Mod is required to be fitted to G-CVIX but it was difficult to locate the original design drawings. the Chief Engineer identified a FAW Mk2 Sea Vixen that has already had the modification incorporated. This aircraft is owned by Mr. Neil Hallett and is dedicated to his father, John. XJ 571 is now housed in the Solent Sky Museum in Southampton and Neil kindly facilitated a visit by the Sea Vixen Team and also Naval Technicians from the design team at 1710 Naval Air Squadron, who are based in Portsmouth. Measurements and images were taken of the modification and we are confident that the parts can be, reverse engineered to produce a modification kit that can be fitted to G-CVIX. We are extremely grateful to Neil and 1710 NAS for their assistance. The Solent Sky Museum is well worth a visit. Apart from Sea Vixen XJ 571, other exhibits include a Short Sandringham flying boat that is truly massive, when viewed suspended from the ceiling inside the building. There is a fine example of a Mk 24 Spitfire, a Skeeter helicopter plus many other interesting and rare exhibits. solentskymuseum.org/ The Sea Vixen Team had a well earned break over Christmas and the New Year holidays, although administrative work did still continue over the period. A vast amount has been achieved in the 3 months since we have had ownership of G-CVIX. The A8/23 and A8/25 Expositions have been submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority and preparations are well in hand for the audit which will be a precursor to obtaining the authorisation to maintain and operate Foxy Lady. Further news updates to follow as and when we receive them.
