Another cold morning with temps in the 20s across the state. - TopicsExpress

Another cold morning with temps in the 20s across the state. Clouds are increasing across western AR this morning and high clouds will spread across the state so well see a mix of sun and clouds today with temps warming into the 30s and 40s. The weak system we though might bring a little winter precipitation to northern AR doesnt have much moisture to work with with most of the precipitation to the north of the state. Cant rule out a sprinkle or snow flurry though this afternoon/evening. A stronger system along with a new push of arctic air will move into the state tonight and Sunday. Low pressure to the south of AR will push moisture up into the state with scattered rain possible over southern into central AR late tonight and Sunday with northern sections seeing a rain possibly mixed with sleet/snow late in the afternoon before turning to all snow especially in the NW sections of the state as the colder air moves south. Models are showing some accumulations of snow possible in northern and NW AR Sunday night. Lows will fall into the 20s late Sunday afternoon in NW AR with the remainder of the state in the 30s north and 40s central and south. Sunday night as the front continues moving south and low pressure moves off to the east, there might be enough moisture to produce some light wintry precipitation even in parts of central AR and as temps fall into the 20s, some of this could be light snow with some light accumulations. This is not set in stone as the timing has to be right, but something to watch. If more moisture is available when the cold air arrives, we could an inch or so in some areas, but as of now it looks like amounts less than an inch according to the GFS/Euro while the NAM keeps accumulations up north. Ill post additional information on this on Sunday as it could impact Monday morning travel if wintry precipitation does materialize. Regardless, another surge of cold arctic air will move into the state and this air mass is colder then the previous one. Temps could fall into the upper teens even in Little Rock Tuesday morning with clear skies seen. The high pressure center responsible for the cold air will begin to shift to the east on Wednesday with moderating temperatures returning for the end of the week, but a new storm system may bring rain to the state as well. Enjoy your weekend, and if going out for football games today, stay warm. A few snowfall maps from GFS/NAM/EURO. These are just maps and always show max amounts. They will change so just use them to know there is some potential.
