Another day of being made to feel guilty because we can not accept - TopicsExpress

Another day of being made to feel guilty because we can not accept animals that people dont want anymore. We presently are helping 27 dogs and 30 cats. Let me remind everyone that we do not normally take in owner surrenders. I wish we could take them all in, but we cant. We reserve our space and money for dire emergencies; animals from shelters that are literally on their way to be euthanized because no one wanted them or animals brought to vets to be euthanized for no good reason or sickness or injury that humans were not willing to pay for. In rare cases we will try to help an owner surrendered animal that we know will not pass the adoptability criteria of shelters. If we do, we may very well ask the family to contribute towards either shots or food......since we are NOT paid to do what we do, we are paying for everything out of our own pockets. We are not a government funded, or anything funded, organization, we are just a very small group of individuals trying to help some get a second chance. FYI, we are not contracted to do this so we are under zero obligation to take in your animal, and if we refuse to be able to take in your pet because you dont want it anymore, it is very much frowned upon when you try to make us feel or look bad because of it. Please remember that a pet is for life, if you are moving, or if your pet is misbehaving, it is still your responsibility. Try and imagine how your pet will feel about being abandoned by the family it knows and loves. *********That being said, there are real problems that do entail a family to have to find a new home for their animal, I have seen many. Death of master, the animal suffers neglect........but in my humble opinion, moving or simply being too tired from working is not an adequate reason to put your animal through that. Please make sure that if you are thinking of bringing a pet in to the family that you take its presence very seriously and you see it for the long haul. Until you see how their hearts literally break and you have to see healthy animals put to sleep, like I have too many times, you may not fully understand this, but trust me when I say, your pets security and safety and LIFE is in your hands. Please take that very seriously.
