Another example of a corporation operating above the laws of this nation. Should Costco, or any other business, have the right to detain you without reasonable suspicion? Currently, their policy, as with Sams club and similar others, is that all customers must show their receipt on the way out of the store, or they are assumed to be stealing. Im fine with being corrected, but that sounds to me an awful lot like presuming guilt without evidence. And according to the precedent set in Coffin v. United States... The principle that there is a presumption of innocence in favor of the accused is the undoubted law, axiomatic and elementary, and its enforcement lies at the foundation of the administration of our criminal law... As far as Im aware, that precedent has never been overturned, and yet... Costco, Sams Club, and others are allowed to presume guilt, and to physically enforce that presumption...for some reason. Not qualitatively different than the Stop n Frisk policy that has so many people enraged at the police in this country. oregonlive/portland/index.ssf/2014/09/man_wont_show_costco_wholesale.html
