Another mass shooting, innocent victims gunned down all because of an angry young man who was bullied but his bigger issue according to his manifesto was that he was virgin. Over time he legally acquired ammunition & three 9-millimeter semiautomatic handguns. Gun violence and now mass killings are common place in our society but any discussion about changing the 2nd Amendment or at least enacting stricter laws that might, though there is obvious no guarantee, of curbing murderous individuals who are determined to cause as much pain as possible are drowned out by our right to bear arms. Now I believe that the 2nd Amendment is archaic and no longer serves the purpose it initially was meant but fear and a powerful lobby less concerned with the issue at hand as they are about the money it generates for their organization keeps responsibility at arms length . If we want to keep the 2nd Amendment, fine. Given that the Amendment states: right to keep and bear arms - it does not specify how many you may own nor it address bullets. So why are we not discussing and enacting laws that incorporate 1 gun per individual (as in this case what is the need for three 9-millimeter semiautomatic handguns?) and raising the cost of ammunition as to create a barrier to individuals like Mr. Rodgers? Neither one is prohibited by the 2nd Amendment and there has to be other solutions but when many say that these things are unstoppable, what they are really saying is that were unwilling to do the work to stop them. Violence does not have to be inevitable, but it is almost always foreseeable: what matters is what we do about it.
