Another reason to keep your computers up to date... As reported in the NY Post... Arianna Huffington spread around a virus — or at least her website did. Some nasty ads hit visitors to The Huffington Post and other sites in recent days, according to reports. The malicious ads infected unwitting users with a form of malware that puts their machine in lockdown. Hackers then demand money in exchange for unlocking the PC, according to cybersecurity firm Cyphort. AOL-owned Advertising served up the “ransom ware”-infected ads between Dec. 31 and Jan. 5 to HuffPo and other sites. AOL, which happens to own HuffPo, along with other content sites, wouldn’t say how many computers were infected. Many sites use third-party ad networks to deliver ads. The attack poses a threat to PCs running older versions of Web browsers such as Internet Explorer 8. nypost/2015/01/08/huffpo-visitors-hit-with-ransom-ware-infected-ads/ HavenZone offers IT Outsourcing to SMBs with active monitoring.
