Another self serving politician? Who would have thought? My main opposition to drug testing for welfare, food stamps and other government social programs is the fact that a lot of these people have children. Even if their parents are drug addicts, its not the kids fault, yet they are the ones who will suffer if the program is cut. I could understand drug testing for recipients without children. The main argument from conservatives on the issue is that people will abuse the system and use it as a way to not work. While thats true, that could easily be resolved by requiring recipients of government social programs to report consistent job search information the way that they do for those on unemployment. There just needs to be a balance, and is always a solution that doesnt require a cold hearted Republican shark attack against children.
