Another victim of a system and culture that let him down. In my opinion Ive been saying for a long time that GB will always be stagnant unless investment into facilities occur not because we need glamorous places to play and train but because theres not enough indoor and too many outdoor clubs with shitty courts and conditions. It is also clear that LTA support needs to come in the way of coaches and mental trainers, psychologists that help players deal with or learn to deal with all the stressors of the tour lower levels (case in point impact of Mark Hilton and David Sammel on Liam Broady). For those that approach the sport professionally by the sounds of like Oli has. You have to be tough to get through to grin and bear the shit times and a lot can be supported. It goes a long way knowing youve got people in your corner in a consistent HOME base, it can add confidence also. At the end of the day you need to be happy in your environment to do something you love. Getting rid of the bonus scheme is completely bonkers, that was providing motivation, providing hope that it can be sustained to play longer (which has been proven needs to be done in todays modern game) and make it for a lot of people in this country. But all this can be trumped by going and playing college tennis. If you dont have the resources out of school: Grow, learn your trade some more, get tougher mentally, which college does for you (if in the right places) and after that go out on the tour, shoot through the futures quicker and get on challengers, onwards and upwards. telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/atptour/11298902/Rising-tennis-star-who-quit-sport-Oli-Golding-says-its-too-hard-to-find-places-to-play-tennis-in-London.html
