The stations have a range of approximately 8 – 12 miles or more, enough to serve most small to mid-sized cities or a large section of a metropolitan area. Because of terrain and lack of adjacent channel interference, some LPFM’s are serving listeners over 15 miles from the transmit site! How much will it cost us to apply? The cost to engineer and apply for the license will be $1,500. What are some of the costs? If you are successful in obtaining a Construction Permit for the new station you will have three years to raise the funds to construct the station. The cost for new equipment will be approximately $11-15,000. Ongoing costs would include electricity and internet, a tower lease (leasing space from an existing tower, so that we do not need to build our own tower), some liability insurance and music licensing. The CRA will help us estimate these costs more accurately once an engineering assessment is done and the antenna location is determined.
