Anti & Counter Terrorism Training Program (5 days) Nairobi, Kenya, 11 - 15 August 2014. Riara University Mbagathi Way. Summary This five-day intensive course enables participants to develop the necessary expertise how to prevent terrorism and how to respond to any natural or man-made disaster if prevention fails. The program is designed to provide line officers and first-line supervisors with an overview of terrorism with a focus on both domestic and international activities, a working knowledge of the criminal intelligence process, an overview of the detection and reporting of indicators of terrorist activities and the reporting of suspicious activity. The program includes a regional terrorism update by BSIK from the area the training is held. Reference materials are provided to students in digital form. Students are welcomed and encouraged to bring laptops to class. Please review the training schedule and apply for a program in your area. By completing the International Anti & Counter Terrorism Training (5days), participants shall also have received a sophisticated introduction to the fundamental issues behind terrorism as well as the motivations, methodology and modus operandi of the various strains of terrorism in the world today. You will widen and deepen your knowledge of some of the most relevant subjects in todays international environment, receiving a solid grounding in the causes, consequences and responses to global and local terrorism. Who should attend? This training is open to full time serving law enforcement officers, probation officers, Private and corporate security officers, Security Managers, non-profit institutions and prospectus students of law enforcement are encouraged to attend. Training Topics include: Day 1. Terrorism & State Responses This training examines the objectives of international and domestic terrorism against a country. The module also looks at the effects of terrorist planning and the risks involved to terrorists as they evaluate the risks before taking action. During this module you will look at international definitions of Terrorism and Terrorists and the role states can play in dealing with the phenomenon that is National and International Terrorism. This module also analyses state responses to minimize attacks and prevent mass casualties. Day Two. Safe Methods of Travel This Training examines various modes of transportation and the vulnerabilities of each. The module also examines route planning and chokepoints (routes where one or more points converge and are ideal staging posts for kidnappings and assassinations). This module also takes you through political and security environments to allow you or the people you are charged with protecting to move around flashpoints in countries safely while planning escapes before entry. Day Three. Prevention of Kidnap for Ransom of Corporate Personnel This seminar assesses the vulnerabilities of corporate companies operating in hostile environments and examines why kidnap for ransom is such a lucrative business in some countries. This module also looks at what the potential kidnappers can observe and how they can plan and execute their operations with little resources. You will learn to observe the watchers that are watching you. Day Four. Preventing armed Attack / Robbery This seminar gives you a unique insight and understanding of how an armed Attack / robbery takes place from the initial surveying of your business to the planning phase, from motivation to the robbery itself and the getaway. Your business could now be a target. If you know how and what happens you can possibly prevent it from happening in the first place. Day Five. Actions on contacts for dealing with Explosives Ordnance Within this seminar you will examine how to effectively search for and recognize explosive devices. We will also teach you defensive measures and actions that you should take on contact with improvised explosive devices. This section of the seminar looks at planning to prevent or minimize the effects of explosive devices in your environment. Learn what and what not to do in the event of finding a suspect package.
