Any Beacon readers notice (please say yes...lol) I havent reported on or written a column about Canadian energy since the spring? The reason is that the Canadian Assoc. of Petroleum Producers hired me to write a couple of industry backgrounders, and were currently turning one of them into a series of videos. I could not in good conscience write about the industry that was paying me to consult for it. And I plan to do more consulting in the future. Which is why I am following Duncan Kinneys and Andrew Leachs examples and creating a conflict of interest page. And any time I write about a client or an issue that I worked on for a client, I will include full disclosure in my writing. I wish I could make a good living as a journalist. Until I can, I have to support myself with consulting. And the best compromise I can come up with to be as transparent as possible. Ill post my new conflict of interest page when its ready.
