Any step moms out there? I am not officially a step mom, but close enough. Eddie and I have been together almost two years and weve lived together since October. We get the kids every other week. I admit, its been super tough to find my role in this new blended family. I think for a while, I actually resisted being the mom role because I felt like they are Eddies kids and I wasnt comfortable with doing certain things. But recently I have taken on a whole new perspective. I am ready to be the mom role. I am ready to run my house the way I want it. Im ready to have a say in how the kids spend their free time, and Im super ready to say ENOUGH video game playing. As a teacher, its been really hard for me to watch these kids this summer basically play video games all day. I finally decided I couldnt take it anymore. So Eddie and I talked, and we are in agreement that the kids are not allowed to sit in front of a TV all day either playing video games or watching shows. Soooo... I had to find activities for them to do, but I needed to find independent activities so Eddie and I can still focus on our work during the day. So, before our vacation, I rearranged one of our closets and put all of their board games and puzzles in it. I also made each of them an art box with all sorts of painting, coloring, cutting, pasting, and story making activities. I was able to introduce them to this new closet and their art boxes yesterday. They LOVED them and wanted to have arts and crafts time for waaaay longer than I had anticipated! It was so amazing to watch them do activities other than those stupid video games. My little heart is so happy today. It was a great day as a step mom :)
