Any thoughts on the best writings about film by non-film-critics and non-film-scholars? Maybe the problem with too many film critics is they know a lot about film but not about much else, thereby lacking proper social and historical perspective. But then, writings about film by specialists in non-film field can be rather tendentious, as with the Nasa guy who ripped Gravity, as if it should be measured by real science than enjoyed as sci-fi. But it wouldnt hurt to have more historians write about films.
