Any which way you look at it, there is no denying that this was an unprecedented election for our country. The BJP stand was criticised by many intellectuals ( resulting in the intellectual becoming a 4 letter word in an instant ) and artists ( who are being asked by people about their next travel destinations) but it all proved useless. The only person to actually leave the country to my knowledge was Kamaal R Khan aka KRK but maybe that was his last ditch effort at being labelled either as an intellectual or an artist. Didnt work ! To my mind , this brings up a few questions. 1. What was this win all about? Was it an anti congress reaction or a pro BJP stand? 2. Did AAPs rebound in Delhi have anything to do with it, removing them , and other small alternative groups as worthwhile options, and majority support landing for those who are A. Not Congress and B. Who can provide a stable government. 3. How can we , if at all, quantify the role marketing strategy, media and social media played here? So did we support an ideology or we were just stuck in a kind of frenzy created by these elements? 4. When we opt for free thinking and our rights to choose and express ourselves as fundamental to Indian democracy, why are the supporters of the new government holding all those who spoke ( or are still speaking) against them in such a contempt? BJP has already proven their point by winning and the witch hunt is not only unnecessary but is creating a negative impression of the winners. I did not vote this time or precisely have never voted so far. I did not think any other government would be any better or worse than the last one and I retain my ( pessimistic or realist depending on where you stand ) opinion. If I see any evidence of change, I may revisit my stand in future but thats to be seen. There has been a criticism on non voters like me as well, for disguising laziness as a legitimate thought process. It has not made any difference to me as I consider myself to be well within my rights in refusing to vote. Luckily, no one has asked me to leave the country so far. Not being an intellectual has its perks.
