Anybody tired of the alternative treatment posts? If so, were sorry! Its just that we keep receiving questions about the scientific merits of this or that alternative treatment. So dont take your thinking caps off just yet, because Im posting an article in response to a readers question about whether or not Hazelwood (which is a wood) will help balance the pH level in a persons body as it is (presumably) slowly absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin. On a personal note, I had many, many friends while in the New Age who had entire food lifestyles devoted around maintaining a certain pH level. I never did this, but I knew many who did. There is no scientific evidence supporting this practice, however. In the pictures below, Hazelwood is often combined with amber, and is marketed for children. (Please take note of how these items are marketed in a very winsome way......I mean come on, who doesnt love a chubby, cute little baby?) The claims are that it helps with teething pain, diaper rash and stomach aches. But again, there is no scientific evidence that these things do what they claim. (Christine) Here is the pro-Hazelwood and Amber website tamaralaschinsky.wordpress/2011/05/09/hazelwood-necklaces-and-bracelets-naturally-balance-your-ph-levels/ And here is an article refuting the claims about the necessity of maintaining a certain pH level in the body washingtonpost/national/health-science/alkaline-products-promise-health-benefits-with-little-proof-to-support-such-claims/2013/02/08/cdc32f1a-3598-11e2-9cfa-e41bac906cc9_story.html
