Anyone see an issue? Spelling, grammatical or otherwise? I have been debating Jo about "family were ranchers" vs. "family was ranchers" Hello, my name is Elizabeth Brix. I have been on horses since early childhood because half of my family were ranchers in west Texas. I grew up enjoying the rodeo, but only started to focus on riding when I was ten, at camp and saw an instructor jump. I have been learning and jumping ever since. At 18, I was employed on a Dutch Warmblood breeding farm. I learned how to start horses and how to teach them to jump. I learned how much I love cantering across a field on my horse and how much personality and intelligence horses have. I learned that trusting the horse is the only way for the horse to trust you. I attended Colorado State University as a pre-veterinary student and received a Bachelor in Biology while working as a Veterinary Technician. I was also enrolled in the CSU Equine Sciences program where I became a certified riding instructor for Beginning though Advanced English and Beginning Western. I still don’t know much about Western, except that it’s a lot like dressage. I also started my dressage education while in college with a professional that once worked with Olympic riders. Since graduating I have trained with many trainers because I always want to learn new things. I still take lessons and learn. One can never know everything about horses and riding. My riding philosophy has evolved in the past few years to “more lower leg, and more lower leg, and less hand.” With a strong foundation, it’s almost impossible to fall off. It’s like giving your horse a perpetual hug with your legs. Then they can feel the subtle shifts in your weight so they know where you want them to go before you ask. I have most recently taught preschool for 4 years and third grade Math and have a Colorado Teaching Certificate and half a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. I have two teenagers who ride for me, and my own kids who are 12 and 16 are good equestrians. I have been teaching friends my age and taking all of us on trail ride treks, which is SO much fun! I look forward to working with more students of all ages, to share my love of connecting with horses, to finding great “dance partners” and creating light happy horses who love to be ridden.
