Anyone that can be of assistance would be great! I recently turned 18 last month so I have a few questions. I am currently looking to get a Ruger 10/22 as my first rifle. Problem is the ammo; am I able to purchase .22lr or is that against the law? My parents dont like guns so they definitely wont be buying ammo for me. I was told by different people different things. Does .22lr count as pistol ammo or rifle ammo? Is there anything against an 18 year old purchasing rifle ammo? I know for a fact an 18 year old can not purchase pistol ammo. Question 2, am I allowed to buy an AR-15? Once again, mixed answers from different people. I understand there has to be a bullet button being a CA resident. However is there something that says I cant buy an AR-15 even though it is a rifle? Is it something about it being considered an assault weapon that makes it so I cant buy it? Question 3, am I allowed to buy shotgun ammo? I am looking to get a shotgun for trap and skeet (anyone know the difference between T&S? All I know one of them is shooting those clay disks). I am looking for a good shotgun to shoot T&S being that I probably wont be wasting money buying indoor range legal shotgun shells. What is a good shotgun for this purpose and what length barrel should I have at LEAST for T&S. I want this to be a home defense gun as well so the shorter the better, but has to be long enough to hit something in T&S. I was thinking an Remington 870? Question 4, Mossberg vs Remington. Price wise Mossberg wins, but what is the downside of that price. Due to the higher price, I would believe that the Remington defeats the Mossberg.
