Anyone who ever gave me shit about how I handled my microcontrollers Kickstarter campaign should watch this video. This fellow created what would appear to be an absurdly simple device - an LED whch plugs into a USB port and changes color to display various status information. It uses a single chip, an LED, and a a few resistors and capacitors. He raised over $100K. Twice! And both times, despite having what he believed was a finished product that was ready to go, he ran into serious production issues, to the point of having to have his friends help assemble them. For comparison, I raised only $16K, and the hardware on my boards was vastly more complex, involving eight different chips, a finicky SD card, and a ton of little jellybean components. Designing hardware is hard.
