Anyone who grew up in Withington before the 80s and Im specifically talking in or around the two big circles that ran from Princess to Mauldeth to Yewtree to Whitchurch and split my Doncaster will remember the passages which interlinked the avenues and streets. (Passages still there today as far as I know) well they where great for riding your bike down as fast as possible, swallowing midges as you rode (not so good) but a small price to pay for the thrill. But there was something even more magical in the 70s/80s for me and they were the Crofts right smack bang in the middle of the circles (most of the passages led to a croft), I suppose they were waste land but to anyone who remembers them, they were like the jewels of a council estate for a kid seaking adventure. Who remembers the crofts? Can I get a hell yeah?
