Anyone who has been thinking about this topic in recent times - TopicsExpress

Anyone who has been thinking about this topic in recent times really should take the time to watch this documentary by the BBC, about the massive rise of Romanian beggars (many times with children) in the streets of London, and its documented links to human trafficking and modern day slavery. In Sweden we luckily see much less children in this context, but the flooding of the streets by beggars has been a hot (and very sensitive) topic for the last couple of years - Should we give to them or not? Because clearly most of us want to help the individuals we see, that is not the problem. The question that arises is if we by supporting their way of life are really doing so, when their real way out of poverty is to get off the streets, get an education and a possibility to work (in both Sweden and Britain school is free). And in funding this activity, are we in fact pouring fuel on the fire of trafficking and child slavery? In any case, I am glad to see that work is being done (in the UK at least) to get to the bottom of it - the greedy figures running the show behind the scenes.
