Anyone who knows me well knows Im an old film buff, give me Errol Flynn, Ronald Coleman, Basil Rathbone, Jimmy Stewart, David Niven, Douglas Fairbanks Jnr and guys like that, Im a happy lady. Swashbuckling and not forgetting old musicals with people like Gene Kelly, Judy Garland and Fred Astaire make me smile. I have my own collection of old SciFi movies like the original War of the Worlds and The Day The Earth Caught Fire. Horror movies with Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jnr and of course Max Schreck in the original Nosferatu, are classic. Sometimes you forget some but then something just sparks the memory of a film, that happened today, just a snippet of music reminded me of one of my favourite musicals The Jolson Story and my favourite song from that musical. Along side The Great Caruso with Mario Lanza singing Ave Maria in the Chapel with a young boy, this is a song I find both beautiful and haunting. Al Jolson as portrayed by Larry Parks.
